Salkasan is located on the western borders of both Acsynae and Maladon. Salkasan like Acsynae, has been carved out of territory which once belonged to Maladon. The region was always sparsely populated when Maladon was a kingdom and gradually peoples from other regions began to settle there changing its character. The coastal region is absorbing some of the culture of neighbouring Acsynae while the inland regions have developed into something distinct from the rest of Maladon and are considered somewhat rustic by the coastal Salkasan..

The origin of the bulk of Salkasan's inland people is unclear. It is believed that they wandered by land across the continent, going around Telorthen Ty Taros and the rest of Maladon.

The capital of Salkasan is the city of Wenchas with a population of around ten thousand. The nation has an approximate area of 27,875 square miles. The northern portion of Salkasan is the most lightly settled, most people living in the central and southern regions.

Salkasan has a population of just over 1million of whom around fifty four thousand dwell within "urban" areas.
