Subsistence Pattern: The subsistence pattern of Pathe is primarily based on a mixed economy, though the eastern regions place a greater emphasis on the herding of livestock. Pathe is generally well watered and soils in the coastal regions are mostly fertile and produce a wide variety of crops. Further inland the soils become poorer and croppage gives way to pastures bordering on the great grasslands of the Greening.

Technology: The technology of Pathe is basically middle iron-age (in terms of Earth development). The nation is able to produce hard iron in some quantity and the number of crafters who can produce steel is rapidly increasing.

Kinship Structure: Kinship and inheritance patterns in Pathe are strongly patrilineal in nature. The eldest male heir generally inheriting 90% or more of property. Other male offspring receive shares of the tithe of property that remains. Females are generally provided with dowries, the size of these varies greatly. If there is no male heir then inheritance goes to the eldest female heir.

Political Structure: Pathe is organised along feudal lines. The power of the old nobility is slowly waining however as the current farass (roughly king) of Pathe has been building a strong central government and associated beauracracy. This has not been without some friction with the old nobility, though a number have managed to obtain appointments within the new government structure.

Military System: The army and navy of Pathe are not organised along feudal lines. Pathe maintains a permanent standing force of professionals. In emergencies additional forces can be called up via a levy system which has been established throughout Pathe.

More detail on the military of Pathe will be found in the Warfare section.
